World Poker Tour and Fox Sports Networks signed broadcasting agreement
The World Poker Tour international land-based poker tournament series has announced the signing of an agreement with American television broadcaster Fox Sports Networks that will see action from its events screened through 2017.
The deal means that poker aficionados will be able to enjoy three more years of original programming starting with the first event of the World Poker Tour’s Season XII, the Legends of Poker tournament, which is scheduled to return to the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California, from August 29.
“Our strategy of global expansion is now being fully realised,” said Adam Pliska, President for the World Poker Tour.
“From 18 events in Season VIII to nearly 60 main tour, regional and national events in Season XI, [the] World Poker Tour will provide Fox Sports Networks with nearly 100 hours of original programming over the course of this agreement. With the greater support and distribution that our new deal provides, [the] World Poker Tour is now guaranteed to make up a major share of the best-in-class United States television poker real estate for years to come.”
The World Poker Tour, which is again being sponsored by ClubWPT.com, additionally revealed that its twelfth season is scheduled to get under way on August 16 with a $4,400 buy-in event at the Merit Crystal Cove Casino in northern Cyprus before heading to the Bicycle Casino. Subsequent Season XII events will take in France, South Africa, the Czech Republic, St Maarten and Quebec before finishing in Jeju, South Korea, with a $3,500 buy-in affair from December 16 to 19.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with [the] World Poker Tour for the next three years,” said David Sussin, Programming Vice-President for Fox Sports Network.
“[The] World Poker Tour has delivered record viewers over the past two seasons and that is a testament to the consistent quality of the show and [the] World Poker Tour’s position as the world’s premiere provider of poker programming.”
